How to Prepare Your Skin For Your Wedding Day

Skincare_wedding_day_makeup

I asked a friend of mine Finn Mauritzen owner at Blush Away Makeup Studio on how to prepare your skin for your wedding day. So if you’re looking for tips on skin and wellness then you are in the right place.

As a DC wedding photographer at Weddings By Lee Photography I work alongside a lot of makeup artists, but there are those that just stand out and truly master their craft. I’ve had the privilege to work with and introduce you to Finn Mauritzen at Blush Away Makeup Studio. Her skill and fun personality make my job as a wedding photographer in DC much easier.

So I asked her to help me educate brides to be, about her business philosophy, who she is, and why she does it.

This from Finn:

“Oh that is a good question and so many reasons!! I started in the health and beauty industry 20 years ago when I studied holistic therapy.  I love teaching clients about beauty and how to feel better in a holistic way.  Weather it be skincare, wellness or achieving the perfect makeup look. I teach all my clients that it all starts from within, healthy nutrition and a healthy skincare routine equals feeling better and getting that flawless makeup look.  Helping my clients get a custom beauty routine that fits their skin’s needs, reviewing their nutrition to see where they can improve it and teaching them a custom makeup routine that fits their features, are just a few way I lead my clients.  I also love creating a natural makeup look and enhancing one’s features to help them look and feel more confident. ”

Here are her tips on How to Prepare Your Skin For Your Wedding Day:

Bridal Beauty and Wellness Timeline

9 to 12 months before

  1. Create a wedding beauty budget, including pre-wedding skin & hair treatments.
  2. Create a beauty folder/pinterest board with photos to provide inspiration for your big day.
  3.  Decide on the type of stylist & makeup artist you want to go with, start getting quotes, reviewing their work and looking at reviews.
  4.  You have more than likely just started the planning, so before things start to get busy, start thinking about self-care.  Find ways to destress and relax for when things get going.
  5.  Sleep, good nutrition, exercise, a good skincare routine, being mindful of your environmental and physical stressors will all help you while you plan for your wedding day.

5 to 6 months before

1. Grow your hair or try a new color if needed.

2.Start a daily and weekly skincare routine.

3.Begin laser hair removal (if needed).

4.Start taking a multivitamin.

5.Incorporate exercise into your daily routine.

6.Schedule your hair and makeup preview.

7.Make sure you are taking a multivitamin, also one for hair, skin and nails can really help your skin look flawless for the big day.

Make time for self-care and invest in your wellness. It is going to be a busy few months, so try to take time to recharge and find ways to relax.  Create a “Wedding Wellness Plan”, whether that involves going for weekly massages or facials, doing daily meditations, going for a walk each day, whatever works for you.

3 to 4 months before

  1. Schedule a dermatologist appointment, or an appointment with your beauty team if you have any skin issues you want to address before your wedding day.
  2. Consult a brow specialist if you need to reshape or grow out your brows.
  3.  Try to find time to plan a weekend away with your finance before things get too busy. A pre-honeymoon if you wish!
  4.  One again, getting plenty of sleep, drinking your water and continuing your time for self-care as you continue to plan for the big day will help you stay healthy and focused while planning.
  5. 1 to 2 months before. Get a hair trim if needed.
  6.  Start a home teeth whitening pack if needed or go and get a professional whitening.
  7.  If you plan on getting a self tan for the wedding, schedule a trail run.
  8.  Tune in on your stress levels and find ways to unwind and relax.

Make sure you are drinking plenty of water each day, hydration is key to achieving a glowing look!

1 to 2 weeks before

  1.  Touch up your roots if your hair is colored.
  2. Schedule manicures and pedicures for the day of the wedding.
  3.  Make sure you get your final skin treatments, facial, waxing etc one week out from the big day.

If you are going to be getting a self tan, make sure you are exfoliating or body brushing regularly and moisturizing your skin daily.

Wedding day is here!

  1. Shower 4 to 5 hours before your call time, use a shower cap to protect your hair.
  2.  Moisturize your hands and double check your nails, all eyes are on your wedding new ring and we don’t want any chipped nails!
  3.  Make sure you have your hair and makeup touchup bag with you when you head to the ceremony.
  4.  Give one final spritz of perfume before you leave the room so it will be fresh as you walk down the aisle. And finally, enjoy your day.  You planned this for months and this is your day.  Try to take a few moments over the day to just take it all in, look around at all your friends and family that are here for you and your husband and enjoy it.
