I love photographing weddings and capturing the raw emotions of the day. I not only shoot in the D.C. area but love a good destination wedding. I hope my journal inspires you.
As I’m driving up the windy country road I’m thinking, what a great day for a Morais Vineyards and Winery wedding. The property is full of rolling hills and the sun kissed vineyards. It is a great way to put you in the mood for a Virginia wedding. That and knowing there is an endless supply of wine at your figure tips.
I had to stop for a second and take in the beauty of this place, as I walk up to a separate villa where April (A.K.A. the bride) and her besties are getting ready. Then it happens, the door opens up and there is my timeless bride in all her glory covered in curlers and her girls running around in the background. I say my hello’s, unpack and start shooting all the details and shenanigans of the bridal prep. Then it was time to put the dress on. April, who is already a stunning person, is now a timeless bride with movie star qualities. From her emotions as mom zips up her dress to the last photo of the night — all I can say is Timeless, Elegant and MOVIE STAR!
As I was finishing with April and packing up to meet with Ilham (A.K.A. the groom), I was thinking he better have his “A” game on if he wanted to match up with April. As I walked up to meet Ilham I could hear the boys cutting up and laughing pretty hard. Before I could even unpack or get settled in, Ilham proudly showed me his hand made blue tux with the wedding date sewn inside the jacket. All I can say is Ilham delivered. He is definitely April’s equal in every way.
Then in was time for the ceremony. Starting with a long winding walk from the winery to the ceremony site, giving April as well as her family and guests time to reflect on their memories of the couple and look forward to many more.
A few tears , some laughter and Bam!!, we have a happily married couple.
I then gathered up the newly married couple and the bridal party for some fun photos The Morais vineyards offer so many beautiful locations for photos. The rolling hills of the winery’s vineyards are some of my favorite.
As the sun is starting to go down, April & Ilham are turning it up inside at the reception. There was the usual – cake cutting, bouquet toss, toasts, kisses – but then it got turned up another notch. The parents and some family members did a dance for them and then…Ilham got up, gathered his best-men, and preformed a choreographed dance for April that would make any Boy Band green with envy. A slice of cake and a couple of cups of coffee later and it was time for me to go.
